Scotty McCreery’s “Barefootin’,” which he co-wrote with David Lee Murphy and Frank Rogers, was named the winner of the 2018 Carolina Beach Music Award for National Song of the Year. The song, which hit No. 1 on the Beach Music Top 40 Chart in September, can be found on the country music singer/songwriter’s current album Seasons Change, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart when it was released in March.
“I was raised on beach music, so to be honored by the Carolina Beach Music Awards for National Song of the Year is really special,” said McCreery, who was backstage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville preparing for his performance on the Grand Ole Opry when he learned he won the Award. “I had a lot of fun writing ‘Barefootin’ with David Lee and Frank, and I’m so happy that people are enjoying it. My wife and I have talked about taking shag dancing lessons. It could be fun to eventually shag dance to my own song.”
McCreery is currently ranked No. 21 and rising on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck Chart with his single “This is It,” inspired by his proposal to his now-wife Gabi Dugal McCreery. The video for the song, which has earned more than 19 million views and topped the GAC Top 20 Countdown for multiple weeks, was filmed at their wedding. The ACM, BMI, CMT and NSAI Award winner will both perform and turn on the holiday lights at Elvis Presley’s Graceland this Thursday, Nov. 15 in Memphis, Tenn. McCreery launches his Seasons Change Tour, featuring special guests Jimmie Allen and Heather Morgan, on Nov. 29 at the House of Blues in Dallas, TX.
