Scotty McCreery Invited to Become a Member of the Grand Ole Opry
Multi-Platinum selling country artist Scotty McCreery was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry tonight by Opry member Garth Brooks. McCreery was surprised onstage during his spotlight artist performance at tonight’s Opry Country Christmas show.
“Merry Christmas,” Garth said walking onto the stage handing McCreery a wrapped gift. “This is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry,” Garth later continued. “We would love to invite you to be the newest member of the Opry.”
“Holy cow. Yes, I would love to,” McCreery replied. “I grew up listening to your records Garth and you’re a part of what made me want to do this for a living and I didn’t think that dream would become a reality, but it is because of all of y’all sitting in this house tonight. God bless y’all.”
McCreery continued, “When I got started doing this people asked, ‘what are your goals,’” voice cracking with emotion McCreery shared, “and I’d say ‘one day I’d like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.’” Then bent down and touched the circle of wood in the Opry’s center stage where so many of his heroes and peers have stood.
“We’re thrilled to extend this much-anticipated invitation to our friend Scotty,” said Opry Executive Producer Dan Rogers. “Whether he’s on the Opry performing his hits, putting his spin on some old favorites during a performance on one of our Opry Country Classics shows, or offering a holiday set as he did tonight, Scotty consistently delivers and is always at home on the Opry stage. It’ll be exciting to hear the words ‘Scotty McCreery, you’re a member of the Grand Ole Opry!’ in the early days of 2024.”
McCreery’s induction date will be announced soon.

What’s one thing that sets you apart from other Scotty fans? I am a country fan. I go way back to Alan Jackson. I love how Scotty keeps the country music alive. There’s just not a lot of country singers doing that. I think other people like all this new country music that doesn’t sound country.

How many times have you seen Scotty live? What was your first show? What was your favorite show? So many times I’ve lost count! My first show was shortly after he won American Idol. He performed at what was then Latitude360 in Jacksonville, FL on a small platform in the middle of the building. I remember standing on a half wall so I could see him! My favorite show was when he opened for Rascal Flatts in Tampa, FL because I got to meet him!
What’s one thing that sets you apart from other Scotty fans? I feel like Scotty and I go way back as friends, like we grew up together. Scotty is 8 days older than me so we celebrate our birthdays around the same time. We both graduated high school in 2012, got engaged in 2017, and got married in 2018. I have loved watching his relationship with Gabi and seeing him become a father.

Written by Frank Rogers, Monty Criswell, Derek George, Bobby Hamrick and Jeremy Bussey and produced by Rogers along with Derek Wells and Aaron Eshuis, the new Christmas music follows the release of McCreery’s latest single, “Cab in a Solo” which garnered him the most first-week adds at country radio (120) of his career and is moving quickly up the charts.

McCreery joins past honorees in the Hall including Eric Church, John Coltrane, Fantasia, Andy Griffith, Ronnie Milsap, Thelonious Monk, Earl Scruggs, Nina Simone, James Taylor, Randy Travis and many more.
"If you know me, you know how much I love my home state of North Carolina,” said McCreery. “There are so many great musical talents from all genres that have come from our state, and I am honored to be inducted alongside them in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. I have so many musical heroes already in this Hall. This is very special to me and an honor I will always treasure.”
